If you have someone special in your life who loves to snack on chips and dip, you must prepare these Chip Dip Seasoning Blends! A collection of 6 chip dip seasonings that require only the addition of sour cream to make the most delicious – and thoughtful! – homemade chip dip!
In our home, dip is the King and Queen of any occasion for snacks and appetizers. If you’ve been reading Lord Byron’s Kitchen for a while, you will have been witness to our love of dips and spreads. The possibilities are endless when it comes to a good dip – especially a sour cream-based dip like all of the ones you see here in this collection of Chip Dip Seasoning Blends!
When it comes to a dip recipe, people can become rather serious. Some like a dip that has a million ingredients, and then some like a minimalist-style dip. Some prefer sour cream-based dips. Some like cream cheese-based dips. Some only go for mayonnaise-based dips. And, of course, some only eat yogurt-based dips. Which one are you?
Personally, I like them all, but I tend to lean more toward sour cream. There’s just something about the tangy flavour of the sour cream that seems to just work well with almost any ingredient you throw at it. Just like in the case of all six of these seasoning blends! Could you prepare them with cream cheese, mayo, or yogurt instead? Absolutely! Just be sure to taste and season accordingly if you use anything but full-fat sour cream.

I’m going to tell you all about this recipe and how you can make it in your home this holiday season, but first, I want to tell you about what you can expect from Lord Byron’s Kitchen this Christmas. I know we’re getting closer to the big day, so it’s time to get to the easier recipes! Before I get into today’s recipe, let me make mention of the five previous holiday confection countdowns that I just finished up this year.
Back in October, I kicked off the holiday season with a holiday recipe series called Lord Byron’s 12 Holiday Trifles Series and followed that up with a second series called Lord Byron’s 12 Holiday Breads and Loaves. Next was a second volume of my 12 Bars and Squares of Christmas! You can find the first bars and squares series here! After that came the seventh annual instalment of Lord Byron’s 24 Cookies of Christmas!
I know we’re getting closer to the big day, which means that most of us will have less time to bake. That is why I’m sharing this new series with you called Lord Byron’s 12 Homemade Holiday Gifts Series! This will be the last series for the 2024 holiday season, so let’s get to it!
LORD BYRON’S 12 SNACKS & TREATS OF CHRISTMAS
Another holiday series, Lord Byron? Yes – why not!? Welcome, Dear Reader, to my last Christmas series this holiday season! I’m calling this series Lord Byron’s 12 Homemade Holiday Gifts Series. Unlike the 24 Cookies of Christmas series that ended a few days ago, this series will focus on easy-to-make snacks and treats that are both delicious and festive.
I will try to keep the recipes in this series quick and easy too. Most of them will require the help of a microwave rather than an oven. And, a bunch of them will involve more assembly-type tasks rather than preheating, beating, whipping, etc.
Just like every other series that I’ve shared here, this series will also see a new snack or treat recipe shared with you, Dear Reader, each and every single day for the next 12 days – even on Saturday and Sunday! You might be asking yourself, how many Christmas recipes could one possibly have or need? Well, I say you can never have too much of a good thing. And, I love having lots of choices. Who wants to prepare the same holiday snacks and treats year after year?

INGREDIENTS NEEDED TO PREPARE THIS RECIPE
The following is a list of the ingredients needed to prepare ALL SIX OF THE RECIPES in this post. For exact amounts and measurements belonging to each type of dip, please refer to the printable recipe card located near the bottom of this post.
- Seasonings and Dried Herbs – Onion powder, dried minced onion, garlic powder, salt, dried parsley, ground black pepper, turmeric, celery seed, dried dill, dried chives, chili powder, paprika, cumin, dried red chili flakes, dried oregano, dried basil, cayenne pepper powder, dried thyme, dried tarragon, and lemon pepper seasoning.
- Nutritional Yeast – Nutritional yeast is a deactivated yeast commonly used as an ingredient in creamy, dairy-free cheese substitutes. It’s easy to find at baking supply or bulk food stores. It tastes very much like parmesan cheese.
- Vegetable Bouillon Powder – Bouillon comes in both liquid and powder form and is most often used to flavour soups and strews. For these recipes, you will need the powder. Look closely at the sodium levels; some brands have much less salt than others which is preferred.
- Sugar – Some dips require just a little bit of sweetness, like in the case of the Taco Chip Dip.

PACKAGING AND GIFT-GIVING
As you can see, I used little clear Christmas ornaments to package the Chip Dip Seasoning Blends for gift giving. If you purchase these little ornaments, please be careful, because not all of them are food-safe or food-friendly. You can find them on Amazon or at Michaels during the holiday season. They are available in different sizes too, so keep that in mind!
I found those little brown paper tags from a seller on Etsy. They’re so cute! On the back, where I have hand-written the name of the seasoning blend, are little holiday postage stamps! Be sure to print off the instructions for the dips and tuck it into the gift box, especially if you are gifting all six of the blends. Alternatively, you could use a larger tag and write the preparation directions on it. Tie the tags to the ornaments with festive string.
I found that little box at Target and used fresh-cut cedar branches to pretty up the box. Another option would be to place a large tub of sour cream into a cellophane bag and tie it up with ribbon, attaching one or two of the seasoning blends. Gift it with a bag of chips! Be sure to keep the sour cream refrigerated if you choose this option!
